The End and Beginning.

If you haven’t noticed, this blog has been neglected a little bit. My bad. But it is all because I’ve decided to separate my work life from home/married life. Sooo… if you like reading about my design work, head on over to my website, where I have a blog there that will be dedicated to design.

If you like reading about Drew and I’s lives as married people, head over to our website, www.drewandvanessa.com, where I converted our wedding website to a blog about us.

Christmas Card & Gifts

I just finished Drew and I’s very first Christmas card. Sent them to the printer, and can’t wait to get them back to address all of them. Here is a quick sneak peek!

With the whole Christmas thing coming up, gift ideas have been on my mind. Did you know boys, especially my husband, are the hardest people to shop for. I can’t just give people cash. I don’t get excited by giving that at all. So to make it easy for my loved ones, (ahem… Drew) here are some things I hope may be in my stocking or tree. PS if you need some funny elephant gifts, check out this for some ideas!

Walmart/Walgreens Photo Giftcard – I’ve been dying to make a bunch of prints of our wedding photos to fill the million frames I have from Ikea. Just the money to do it has had other priorities.

Thanksgiving 2010

I love my family, they are the greatest, so it usually makes Thanksgiving that much more fun. We did an early thanksgiving with Drew’s family and then on the real thanksgiving celebrated with my family. Here are some photos from the day.

Social Media is taking over the world

Well, that is just my opinion. Drew recently read that every 1 in 4 page views on the interwebs (as he calls it) is Facebook. That is insane. INSANE. PS did you the Facebook movie? I loved it and makes me want to change the world. I recently was asked to help someone create a social media contest, while I did not commit to doing the project because of the time commitment, I did do some research on how businesses are using social media to interact with their customers. It is insane. Oh and have you been using the Facebook Places now? I’m really hoping to hit the mall soon and use it to find deals at the stores that pop up to check into.

Also, watch this sweet video of how IKEA used Facebook to promote their new store.

Freelancing

I’ve been busy enjoying life with my husband, getting crafty, freelancing among many other things. I feel like my life may be boring if I just spelled it all out, but instead, I’ll show you in pictures what I have been doing with my time.

updating your resume is always good….

Also… freelancing for Soles for Jesus. If you have good shoes that you don’t need anymore, consider donating to them!

I also sent in one of my headbands I have available on etsy to be featured in an online magazine for UW-Madison, called Curb. Super excited for that!

Fall-Themed Date

Lately with Drew and I’s schedules, we’ve been able to do date night on every Friday. Friday is currently my favorite day of the week now. But yesterday we went on a Fall-Themed Date. We went to Basses Farm in Germantown/Colgate area. We went through their cornmaze and then picked some pumpkins. PS Drew was super into the cornmaze, he navigated the whole way and I just followed.

Bookmarks – currently reading

The other day Drew and I went to Barnes & Noble on date night. And I think it is my new favorite date option. Drew finds a couple books and magazines, I normally stick to the magazines. This time I picked four and then had to narrow it down to one I could buy. I picked “The Nest – Summer 2010” I loved it because of its content that I could relate to and loved the design.

While I read one magazine, Drew read an entire 300 page book. Sad I know. But here are a few other books, I have bookmarks currently placed in.

I’m also currently reading the newest FreshHome magazine, and while reading their blog, found this book. I definitely need to read it because that is exactly how I feel about our apartment.

Magazine Spreads

I recently rediscovered some work I had that I’m not sure if I shared before. It was during my time at Readers Digest Association, where I worked with insanely talented people. I miss it there and hope to be back soon. Here are some spreads…

RDA-Milwaukee also has a newer magazine, that I love. I don’t know why I haven’t picked it up sooner, it’s called FreshHome. They also have a blog that is updated daily with Do-It-Yourself and other decor ideas.Check it out!

Catching Up.

So remember that long time ago, before I was married. It seems like forever ago, but we needed dressers. My aunt found some from Goodwill for us, and loved the construction of them, just not their appearance. Here they are.

So my dad sanded them and refinished them beautifully. Then I went to Hobby Lobby to pick out neat handles.  So here they are!
My cat had to get in on his photo opp. Also, don’t you just hate these white walls. It drives me nuts everyday. If I could I’d paint a huge wall with that chalkboard paint, I so would. Don’t think apartment people would appreciate it though.

Also, here are some other shots of some DIYs that I did when it was a lot warmer out and haven’t gotten around to posting. And notice we finally got some of our wedding photos in frames!

I turned our red frames from our wedding into yellow ones!

once red, now yellow!

our lovely fireplace, that still needs working on.

DONE – www.vifonline.org

It has officially launched, and I can breathe a little easier at work. This beast of a project of a new website is done. It was a long time coming and a huge dream of mine that I’ve had for 2 years probably. Here is the story.

First I was going to do it in Dreamweaver. Yes I know Dreamweaver, but not like a pro and was terrified. So then I found ShowIt. It was pretty neat, but didn’t like the fact that it would be $39/month for the rest of time, and you couldn’t SCROLL on a page, and that just frustrated me to no end. So I just started working on it in ShowIt was almost done, not super happy and then a lightbulb came on. WordPress. So I found this amazing theme at http://www.themeforest.net and went from there. The bargainista  in me was so proud, the theme cost $37 flat, and turns out it CAN scroll and I am super happy with it. It also is easy to learn for whoever may need to maintain it in the future. So here it is… www.vifonline.org

Here are some quick screenshots of it as well…

I also created a little side site for our event coming up, Fall Family Fest. Take a look at that too… www.fallfamilyfest.com
