DONE – www.vifonline.org

It has officially launched, and I can breathe a little easier at work. This beast of a project of a new website is done. It was a long time coming and a huge dream of mine that I’ve had for 2 years probably. Here is the story.

First I was going to do it in Dreamweaver. Yes I know Dreamweaver, but not like a pro and was terrified. So then I found ShowIt. It was pretty neat, but didn’t like the fact that it would be $39/month for the rest of time, and you couldn’t SCROLL on a page, and that just frustrated me to no end. So I just started working on it in ShowIt was almost done, not super happy and then a lightbulb came on. WordPress. So I found this amazing theme at http://www.themeforest.net and went from there. The bargainista  in me was so proud, the theme cost $37 flat, and turns out it CAN scroll and I am super happy with it. It also is easy to learn for whoever may need to maintain it in the future. So here it is… www.vifonline.org

Here are some quick screenshots of it as well…

I also created a little side site for our event coming up, Fall Family Fest. Take a look at that too… www.fallfamilyfest.com

VIF Staff Photos & New Website

Being the graphic designer at VIF I guess also makes me the photographer. So lately I’ve been going around taking pictures of all the different activities going on throughout the week. You can view those on the VIF Facebook. I also had the chance to take some of the staff photos on Sunday. Here is my favorite.

Anyways, here is where they are going. On the new website, that I plan to have unveiled super soon!! PS if you are bored, feel free to roam the site and let me know of any errors.

THE WORKINGS…as of lately.

I’ve been spending lots of free time working on getting VIFs new site up and running. It’s a huge makeover with a lot more interactive things. I’m super excited for it to be done and when people get to use it! This could seriously be a full time job. My target goal is to finish by October 1. Here are some screen shots.

Vanessa Joy – etsy shop

It’s official. And it’s open. I got my etsy shop up and running and filled with a few items. However, lots more will be coming soon!! So click on the image to the right and it will take you straight to my shop! Happy shopping 🙂

Here are a few items you can find there…

I have some more ideas for belts, hair clips, shoe clips and more… so check back soon!

FLOWERS GALORE.etsy store coming soon

Holy flowers. I have literally taken over our kitchen table with a fun project. Drew honestly doesn’t mind eating dinner on the ottoman and neither do I! But anyways, here are some tidbits of what I’ve been working on…which I will soon be putting available from my very own etsy store. So stay tuned!!

PS these were taken from my lovely iphone, not my neato camera.

INVITE madness

I’ve been working on these bad boys. And have been thinking, maybe I don’t want to deal with bridezillas. Not sure if the whole wedding business is for me. But we’ll see. This is a work in progress. Feel free to leave comments to let my lil sis know how much everyone loves them. ESPECIALLY THE FONT. The end.
I think I’ve been taking up crafting because my eyes can’t look at a computer all day long. I need a break!!

NEW WEBSITE & DOMAIN.coming soon.

So ya’ll. Since I got married and all, and changed my name officially (well, awhile ago) I should get a new domain. However, I can’t get a new domain on this wordpress blog, so it is going to have to be this until I become big and famous. But for my official website with my portfolio and the purpose to drum up some freelance work, I’m redoing my website. I’m using wordpress to do so and adapting a template to showcase my artwork. My new domain will be http://www.vanessawyler.com and it is currently live, just discovered that, I thought it wasn’t! Oh well!

Well I have to work on posting all my work, so far I’ve just got a few things, there is probably some other kinks I’ll eventually work out. But take a look at some screenshots, and check it out www.vanessawyler.com. Let me know if you see something that needs fixing! Thanks.

CRAFT TIME!

I think my mom figured I’d be crafty when I was older, probably because I colored in the lines when I was really little. Who knows. But anyways, I took a pause from my graphic designing (well not really, just not working on graphic design at home) to start a new little side project. I got a sewing machine for graduation and was going to whip it out this weekend.

I actually never got it out. Instead I picked up a needle and thread, along with a bunch of other sewing supplies, including scrap fabric from Walmart. That stuff is like a $1. Go get a ton! I also got this neato “photo box” which is now my scrap fabric and sewing stuff box at Hobby Lobby for about a $1. It even looks so cute on a shelf.

Well anyways, here is what I made with the fabric. I’m looking at opening up an etsy shop, first and foremost to drum up business for wedding invitations and other design projects, as well as maybe selling some creations…If I ever get enough time to make them.

I’m not quite sure what I am doing with all these flowers. I was thinking shirts, pillows, shoes, scarfs, necklaces, hats, really anywhere. If you had some of these flowers, where would you wear them?

A DAY WITH THE COUSINS.

I decided it would be fun to give my aunt a break with the two older kids and take them swimming at our pool. And since I got a new camera, I thought I’d try it out. However, I didn’t trust myself bringing it to a place with a lot of water, so here is our day, minus the pool part. PS These kids are crazy, but I love them!

GROWING. as an artist.

It is crazy to look back just three years ago and see how much you grow. Well I know for certain I have. I’ve had times where I felt like I just couldn’t design something and then somehow, poof, it happens. I also feel that it is important to never stop learning and challenging yourself. I spend probably close to an hour a day researching new techniques, new inspiration, new ideas, and new thoughts.

Here is a glimps of how I have grown in a couple years, just by looking at a poster that I designed at the same time every year.
